It’s a time of new beginnings and/or new gym memberships. So if you’re planning to up your fitness game this year, you’ll be pleased to know that the beauty world has evolved to ensure that every gym bunny has their needs met. Whether you love to exercise with a full face on or want to give your post-workout look serious staying power – how do you apply your makeupwithout clogging your pores? The expert team at Fabled by Marie Claire has the answer. The secret is sweat-resistant, non- comedogenic buys (aka oil-free products to prevent breakouts). Read on for Fabled’s top tips.

Ace your base

Whether you have combination skin, open pores, a shiny forehead, dry patches or your tone tends to turn a shade of beetroot after a session at the gym – great skin starts with a strong base. Fabled by Marie Claire is hooked on Korres’ superstar vegan moisturiser, £19 for oily skin that targets irritation. “I apply it right after a spin class”, says Fabled executive content editor Gilly Ferguson. “It helps to calm down the redness that comes with a good workout and re-balances my skin.”

Next, add Benefit’s bestselling Porefessional Primer, £27.50 to smooth out pores for a flawless finish that also maintains your post-gym healthy glow. And if time permits, give yourself 10 minutes to de-sweat before getting into the shower. Cooling down is key, otherwise you’ll be sweating all over again the minute you head out the door.

Use a non-comodogenic cover-up

This bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Hydrating Tinted Cream Gel, £28, boasts a smart formula that controls sebum production, meaning your T-zone won’t get shiny while the rest of your face can breathe without feeling tight. With SPF 30, it’s also non-acnegenic, sweat proof, water resistant, long lasting, weatherproof and infused with concentrated Hyaluronic Acid to help control oil, plus it has SPF 30. But best of all? It glides onto post-workout skin like a dream, minus any caking whatsoever. Finish with a setting spray – Fabled by Marie Claire loves this matte version, £5, from Barry M.

Waterproof it

If you tend to sweat at the best of times (workout or no workout), eyeliner markers have much longer staying power than pencils. Gilly Ferguson swears by Eyeko’s five-star rated waterproof mascara, £19 combined with the brand’s liquid liner, £16. Add a final flush of colour to cheeks and lips with Korres’ hydrating lip butter, £8 (another vegan star buy) – it’s perfect if you have to dab and dash back to the office.
