Summer’s gone and so are the carefree days that belong to the warm season. Refusing to accept the humdrum of everyday life, we pack autumn’s best utility pieces and journey north.
Either the city fills you with energy, or it drains you of it. When sounds of honking taxis and crowded restaurants don’t inspire us, we escape to the cabin for a weekend in the country.
It’s not yet cold enough for heavy jackets, but just perfect for cosy jumpers, practical trousers and sharp boiler suits. We want dressing to be easy and comfortable — but still cute enough for an occasional stroll through the village.
THE SEASON’S STYLE TRICK
When you thought there were no more ways to wear a boiler suit, the season’s statement styling trick came along. Tuck your forest green one-piece into a pair of light brown high-shaft boots for a new take on the utility trend.
Although the air is getting brisker and the days shorter, we still haven’t abandoned the thought of florals and bare legs. The cold-weather solution? Swap flip-flops for over-knee boots and light patterns for a darker ditto.
Even if there’s still a chance to bare some skin, winter is creeping closer. A cosy pile jacket is the perfect throw-over, whether you’re going for a hike in the forest or a walk in the city.
Of all the ways to take on utility dressing, we have two preferred directions. First: the modern way that partners high-waist trousers with a romantic balloon-sleeved blouse and ankle boots. Second, the casual way combining utility trousers with a zipped-up hairy knit.
THE (KN)IT COLOUR
A boxy knit is one of those forever pieces; essential in any wardrobe for its versatility and ease. Opt away from the ordinary colour scheme, and brighten up the dark season with a pop of colour. Combine with a floral midi skirt and high-shaft boot, and throw on a heavy puffer coat if the weather demands it.
