Yes, that time of year has come around again already.
Decorating the house, buying presents, wrapping them, stocking up the food cupboards, working out how to keep the kids entertained; it can get overwhelming. Unfortunately, we can’t make the stresses and strains of the festive season go away, but we’ve a few tips that might just make them more manageable by partaking in a Christmas pre-tox.
By taking a holistic approach to your wellbeing – inside and out – and your environment, you’ll be refreshed and ready with the batteries fully recharged to tackle the festive season. Here are our top tips.
Christmas is a busy time in any home. With the darkest and coldest days of the year fast approaching, everyone’s spending more time indoors. You’ll also be expecting plenty of family members and friends round. Setting aside a day before December rolls in and getting everything ship-shape is a great idea, and will free up valuable time nearer Christmas. It will make keeping on top of the house much more manageable.
The run up to Christmas can eat into your sleep; staying up late wrapping presents after the kids have gone to bed or trying to fit in household duties you’ve had to postpone after spending the weekends shopping. Try heading to bed an hour earlier than usual as we head towards December. You’ll feel much more rested.
It can be really hard to keep your eating healthy at Christmas. Chocolate and sweets seem to be everywhere, and they’re almost certain to turn up in your stocking on the big day. Try kicking chocolate and sweets for a while in the run up to Christmas. This means you can offset any festive treats later on and don’t need to feel guilty when the time to indulge does arrive. Advent calendars are excluded, of course!
If you already have a fitness routine, you’ll know November and December can be the hardest months when it comes to staying on track. The evenings are dark, the weather’s freezing and you’re super busy. But getting outdoors and getting some exercise works wonders for your mind and body. It’ll give you a much needed break from all things festive and ensure you head into the season fighting fit.
Staying hydrated is a really important part of keeping us ticking over. At this time of year, it can be easy not to get as much water as you actually need. What’s more, we turn to hot drinks such as pumpkin spice lattes and hot chocolates in the cold weather, and the festivities mean we tend to take in much more alcohol than usual. Both of these have a dehydrating affect, so it’s important to drink a litre of water each day to keep you feeling right.
With these top tips, get prepared and feel ready to face the festive season head-on!
