On 10th and 11th June 2017, the World Food Festival will return to The Heart Shopping Centre in Walton-on-Thames. With up to forty specialist stalls showcasing food from around the world, it is a worldwide ticket for shoppers’ taste buds without the expense and jet lag! Celebrity chefs will also be on hand to dazzle and delight shoppers.
Paul Jagger, a contestant on the 2015 series of The Great British Bake Off, will be running demonstrations to teach shoppers how to shake-up up their baking skills. Celebrity chef Richard Fox will also be present, providing foodies with inspiration on how to reduce food waste, as well as sharing his expertise on using beer to create delicious dishes.
Visitors can experience the world through food, with stands specialising in German bratwurst, British meats and Indian street food to name just a few. Shoppers with a sweet tooth will be spoilt for choice with Mexican churros, traditional Portuguese pastries and Turkish delight on offer. This year they’ll also be a liquid nitrogen ice cream stall for those feeling particularly adventurous! And for guests over 18, there will be plenty of liquid refreshments including Caribbean cocktails and Shropshire gin.
Fisher & Paykel, designers of beautiful kitchen appliances, will be hosting a tasting kitchen where celebrity chefs and professional chefs from some of the restaurants within The Heart will be showing guests how to recreate their favourite dishes at home. There will also be opportunities to get a seat at the tasting tables, as well as incredible competition prizes to be won across the weekend.
There will be plenty for kids to get involved in too. Masterclasses will be available where children can learn how to make sushi and bake bread alongside one of the festival’s chefs. There will also be a ‘food laboratory’, where kids can make pizza, fruit scones and vegetable cupcakes, and even edible slime! Entertainment will be provided on the Saturday by local dance schools performing ‘world’ inspired routines.
Mark Middleton, Centre Manager at The Heart says, “We are really excited to be holding another World Food Festival at The Heart, and this year it’s going to be even bigger as we’ve extended it across the entire weekend! It’s a great event for all the family and I’m looking forward to seeing our loyal customers, and hopefully welcoming some new faces too. My top tip – come hungry!”
