HoardingUK, is a well-respected charity that raises awareness and provides support to those who suffer from the mental health condition, hoarding.
Hoarding, which is quite often overlooked as a form of mental illness, stems from a range of issues, from psychological, behavioural and practical etc. Not everyone who is living amongst an abundance of items would be given the diagnosis of “hoarding disorder” however, thousands of people go undiagnosed each year.
Mandi Simms has been a resident of Walton-on-Thames for many years and is a sufferer of hoarding disorder who is now on a quest to raise awareness of this condition and change the status quo when it comes to talking about and acknowledging it.
Mandi is a well-known character within the Walton-on-Thames community and has a wealth of experience when it comes to hoarding disorder, identifying it and, supporting those with it. Mandi even appeared on the channel 5 documentary, Hoarder Homes, No Time To Move..
Mandi Simms is delighted to be opening her new store alongside HoardingUK this Summer.
In addition to this, Mandi is an ambassador of many organisations and groups focused on supporting hoarders and their mental health, HoardingUK and Mandi are delighted to have been given the opportunity to open a pop-up store through Rainbow Rising and are excited to offer the local community something different.
Mandi comments on her new store, “I am incredibly excited to have opened this store at The Heart. It’s already packed to the rafters with an eclectic collection of products. Hoarding is often linked to a traumatic or shocking experience in life and those, like myself, that have this challenge tend to use hoarding as a way of coping with this trauma.”
Rowen Squibb, from Why Media, the agency behind The Heart’s PR and Marketing expressed his “upside” to the challenge, Mandi explained; “Although to see this as a hobby or some kind of outlet, I can assure you when your home is not a place to be visited and you are unable to function in a normal way, it is far from ok.”
Hoarding disorder is often overlooked as a mental illness
Mandi and the team at HoardingUK are not currently seeking donations for the store but welcome the entire community to visit, take a look at their collection and make their purchases once open.
