In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the annual "One Great Day" event, hosted by The Heart Shopping Centre, brought families and friends together for a day of fun and generosity. The event, held on Saturday, 9th September, featured a delightful teddy bear's picnic, glitter tattoos, face painting, and balloon modelling, all while raising an impressive £723.06 for two remarkable charities, The Children Trust and Great Ormond Street.
The "One Great Day" event has become a beloved tradition in the Walton community, known for its commitment to making a difference in the lives of those in need. This year's event was no exception, as families visited Walton-on-Thames to enjoy a day filled with laughter and giving.
Children and their beloved stuffed companions gathered for a delightful Teddy Bear's Picnic under the warm sun. The picnic area was adorned with a colourful seating area and adorable teddy bears, creating a cosy atmosphere that brought smiles to young faces.
The young ones were also treated to a magical transformation with glitter tattoos and face painting, adding a touch of sparkle to the day. Talented artists worked their magic, turning children into their favourite characters and creatures. Our talented balloon modeller was also back, showcasing his skills with balloon animals that left the children with wonder.
The true magic of the day, however, was in the generosity of those who attended. Attendees generously contributed to the fundraising efforts through donations, raffles, and various fundraising activities throughout the day. As a result, an impressive total of £723.06 was raised, a testament to the incredible spirit of giving in our community.
The funds raised will be equally divided between The Children Trust, an organisation dedicated to improving the lives of children, and Great Ormond Street Hospital, renowned for providing exceptional care to children with complex medical needs.
"We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our community," said Mark Middleton, Centre Manager. "The success of this year's 'One Great Day' event reaffirms the power of coming together to make a positive impact on the lives of children and families in need. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to this remarkable achievement."
